A method was described for the determination of dicyandiamide in dry milk by using direct analysis in real time (DART) quadrupole time-of-flight tandem mass spectrometry (DART-Q-TOF).Simple sample extraction procedure employing methanol-5% aqueous formic acid mixture was followed by direct, highthroughput examination of sample extracts spread on a transmission module by mass spectrometry under ambient conditions, without any prior chromatographic separation. After optimization of instrument parameters, the limit of detection (LOD) 250μg/mL was achieved for dicyandiamide.A linear calibration curve was obtained in the concentration range from 0.25 to 20μg/mL.The average recovery of DCD was 87.3%.Due to its simplicity and accuracy, the straightforward method is particularly suitable for routine dicyandiamide detection.
