Binuclear Platinum Complexes as Emissive Dopants for Solution-Processed Red and Near-Infrared PLEDs

  A novel kind of binuclear platinum (Ⅱ) complexes,FPt-C8-OXT and PPt-C8-OXT were synthesized,their molecular structures were showed in Figure 1.Using these Pt(Ⅱ) complexes as dopants with 1 wt%-8 wt% doping concentrations and a blend of poly(9,9-dioctyl fluorence) (PFO) and 30 wt% 2-tert-butylphenyl-5-biphenyl-1,3,4-oxadiazole (PBD) as host matrix,the double-layer-ed polymer light-emitting devices (PLEDs) were fabricated with a configuration of ITO/PEDOT:PASS,50nm / PVK,40 nm / Pt-complexes + PFO-PBD(30%),80 nm / Ba,4 nm / Al,150 nm.The photoluminescence (PL) and electroluminescence (EL) properties of these complexes in the devices were studied.By optimizing the dopant concentration,the device with 8 wt% FPt-C8-OXT displayed red emission at 620 nm with a CIE coordinates of (0.59,0.40) and a maximum external quantum efficiency of 8.5% at 241 cd m-2; the device with 8 wt% PPt-C8-OXT exhibited near-infrared emission at 706 nm with a CIE coordinates of (0.68,0.31) and a maximum external quantum efficiency of 6.4% at 275 cd m-2.To the best of our knowledge,these are the highest efficiencies for the reported binuclear platinum (Ⅱ) complexes-doped PLEDs with red and near-infrared emissions.
