  In this study two-step steam pretreatment by dilute H2SO4/NaOH impregnation to improve the enzymatic hydrolysis has been investigated.The first pretreatment step was performed under conditions of low severity(room temperature,2%H2SO4/NaOH,48h)to initially destroy the structure of bamboo.In the second step the first treated materials were further treated by steam explosion at 118℃ with 1.0 MPa for 6 min(dry matter-to-liquid ratio 1﹕20).And the delignification,saccharification efficiency and yield were compared.The structural features of samples were characterized by SEM,XRD and FTIR.Results show 2%H2SO4/steam explosion resulted in the highest hemicellulose reduction(47%).2%NaOH/steam explosion resulted in the highest delignification level(51%)as well as the highest enzymatic digestibility of 67.1%and total product yield of glucose of 58.0%,an increase of 94.5%and 68.1%than that of untreated material,respectively,which seemed to be the most effective for improving enzymatic saccharification.The results of structural features showed the structure and surface of shells were changed that is in favor of the following enzymatic hydrolysis.
