Nitrification describes the oxidation of NH4 + to NO2 - and ultimately to NO3 -.Nitrification links the most reduced and the most oxidized forms of the nitrogen cycle, and it exerts considerable influence on nitrogen dynamics in aquatic environments. The mechanisms and kinetics of nitrification in the water column and sediments of cultured system and the temperature factor regulating the rates will be explored below. The extent of nitrification in the cultured water has been estimated from changes in nitrate, nitrite or ammonia yielded when the water and sediments were incubated under different temperatures simulated conditions for a rather long period. The results indicate that temperature plays an important role on nitrification, when pH value, dissolved oxygen (DO) and salinity keep at a moderate level.
