The Southern Bay scallop Argopecten irradians concentricus is one of the most economically important aquaculture species along the southern coast of China. From 2004, mass selections for fast growth in shell height were successively conducted, and significant responses to selection were observed for all the five generation selections. The fifth generation selected line (F5) showed significant growth advantage than that of the control line (unselected control for five successive generations unselected). To providing more information for cultivation and further genetic improvement of Southern Bay scallop, 11 SSR primers were used to detect the genetic diversity and genetic divergence between the F5 selected line and the control line in the present study.
