  L-lysine (Lys) is often used as special chemicals in medicament,chemical agent,food material and feed additive [1-3].In the present work,extraction of Lys with sec-octylphenoxy acetic acid (CA-12) in sulfonated kerosene was investigated under different pH and CA-12 concentrations,and optimized conditions were determined.The extraction efficiency from a 0.2 mg/mL Lys solution could reach 91.6% with pH of the initial solution = 10.5,CA-12 concentration = 1.2 mol/L,phase ratio (organic/aqueous,v/v) = 9:10.Atomic force microscopy was proposed for analyzing the extraction mechanism as shown in Fig.1.It showed that the electrovalent bond between Lys and CA-12 was acted as the main force to partition Lys into organic phase.And a model for the extraction equilibrium was presented.Furthermore,Lys extracted into the organic solutions could be well strip extracted back by using a dilute KCl solution and the single strip-extraction efficiency was 88.9%,while the total strip-extraction efficiency after three strip extractions could reach 95.7%.This study could provide useful information towards developing more efficient and economical process for Lys separation and purification.
