Background:According to the International Agency for Research on Cancer,livercancer is the fifth most common cancer in men worldwide(523,000 cases/y,7.9% of allcancers)and the seventh most common cancer in women(226,000 cases/y,6.5% of allcancers).Liver cancer has a high mortality rate;the geographic distribution of mortalityis similar to that of incidence.Most of the burden of liver cancer is in developingcountries.And China alone accounts for more than 50% of the cases occur.Hepatocellularcarcinoma (HCC)is the most common form of liver cancer.HCC occurs most frequentlyin the setting of chronic liver injury and cirrhosis.Geographic variation in incidenee isprimarily related to patterns of infection with chronic hepatitis B virus(HBV)or hepatitisC virus(HCV)infections.
