Twenty one magmatic rocks were analyzed for major and trace elements, and asubset of them for Sr-Nd isotopes and zircon U-Pb isotopes,to constrain magmagenesis and tectonic evolution of the Iranian segment of the Makran arc.Two samplesfrom the Bazman volcano yield zircon U-Pb ages of 7.5±0.1Ma and 5.9±0.2Ma.Four samples from the Taftan volcano yield a cluster of ages at ~3.4-3.2Ma and onesample was dated at 0.84±0.06Ma.The obtained ages are consistent with thepublished K-Ar and39Ar/40Ar ages for these volcanoes ranging from the Late Mioceneto the Late Pleistocene. The Mirabad granitic pluton, which is close to and interpretedto be the root of the Taftan volcano, was dated at~19Ma.Theanalyzed rocks showbasaltic to rhyolitic compositions,calc-alkaline affinity and an orogenic geochemicalsignature revealed byenrichments in large ion lithophile elements, light rare earthelements and Pb,and depletions in high field strength elements andP relative toelements of similar incompatibilities.
