Our research aims to understand neural mechanisms underlying speech motor control, particularly, how sensory cues arising from central auditory pathways are integrated with the motor system to guide the speech production. We use a combination of state-of-the-art neurophysiological/acoustic techniques and unique speech perceptual learning protocols to tackle our research questions. Our behavioral and neurophysiological research has demonstrated that auditory feedback is actively involved in the control of vocal production according to the specific demands of task, and our latest research provides evidence that speech perceptual learning have a significant impact on the control of speech production, suggesting a complicated interaction between sensory and motor system in speech process.
