Enterprise information construction calls for information resources planning (IRP),and it seems more imperative in the railway sector.Over last twenty years of development,a nationwide computer network covering the ministry,bureau and sub-bureau has come into being,and the systems on business information has played an indispensable role in railway transportation and its daily operation.Meanwhile,a solid foundation for computer facilities and data has been put in place.The "separated information island" resulting from the backwardness in application and development of information resources,however,has impeded the development of railway information construction.
