Objectives:To investigate the association between level of serum uric acid in children with diabetic ketoacidosis(DKA)Methods:Eighteen DKA children were divided into two groups:those with hyperuricemia(HUA group)and those without HUA(control group). The data collected include the demographic data, clinical features, laboratory parameters(plasma glucose, uric acid,WBC,creatinine and so on)on admission. Results:In DKA children with HUA compared with control group, serum uric acid levels was found to be significantly higher(598.27±165.32 mmol/L vs.259.14±89.75 mmol/L,p < 0.01).WBC levels and creatinine levels in DKA children with HUA were also significantly higher than that in control group(P<0.05).In the two groups, the incidence of infection was 90.90%and 42.86%,respectively(P<0.05).Conclusion:Our data suggests that differential uric acid may be a feature of DKA in children, and that increased level of uric acid is associated with WBC and creatinine.Hyperuricemia may contributed to infection or renal damage of DKA in children.
