Disk-shaped compounds can self assemble to columnar mesophase (Col phase) or discotic nematic phase (ND phase).The Col phase materials display high charged carrier mobility and are good organic semiconductors.ND phase can be used as optical compensating films and have commercially used for widening the view angels of liquid crystal displays.
