The acylthiourea compounds have favorable coordination ability, and its sulfur and nitrogen atoms can coordinate with metal ions,so it is widely used as metal chelators and sulphide ore flotation collectors for separation and concentration of metals [1,2].In this paper,a novel acylthiourea compound,N,N-dipropyl-N’-hexanoyl thiourea (DPHTU),was introduced, and then synthesized by a three-step process.Firstly,by using N,N-dimethylformamide(DMF) as a catalyst,n-hexanoic acid reacted with triphosgene to produce n-hexanoyl chloride under sovent-free condition. Then, using n-hexanoyl chloride prepared, potassium thiocyanate and organic amine as reactants and PEG-400 as a phase transfer catalyst,DPHTU was prepared by one-pot two-step process[3],whose yield was 88.31%.Moreover,DPHTU prepared was purified, then charaterized and confirmed by UV and IR spectrum[4].DPHTU’s properties such as response to metal ions and adsorption on chalcopyrite surfaces were also investigated by UV,IR spectrum and adsorption measurement. The results showed that DPHTU might react chemically with Cu2+,Cu+ or Ag+ ions through its S and N atoms in C(=S)-NH-C(=O) group to form a new chelate compound, but no reaction of DPHTU with Zn2+、Pb2+,Co2+,Ni2+,Fe3+ or Fe2+ ions was observed in aqueous solutions. The results of adsorption experiments showed that DPHTU’s adsorption capability to chalcopyrite was in proportion to its initial concentration, and the maximum adsorption reached at pH 8~10.DPHTU might attach on chalcopyrite surface by chemisorption.
