  In this paper, separation of four neutral macrocyclic compounds (calix[4]pyrroles (C4Ps)-meso-octamethylealix [4]pyrrole (OMCP), meso-octaethylcalix[4]pyrrole (OECP), meso-tetracyclopentylcalix[4]pyrrole (TPCP) and meso-tetracyclohexylcalix[4]pyrrole (THCP) by nonaqueous capillary electrophoresis (CE) with tetrabutylammonium fluroride (Bu4NF)and tetrabutylammonium chloride (Bu4NCl) salts as background electrolyte (BGE) is described.Fluoride anion and chloride anion can bind neutral C4Ps through 1∶1 chemical stoichiometry effectively and selectively by hydrogen bonding and adopt a negatively charged cone-like conformation [1,2].Only under this circumstances, C4Ps can be separated from each other by their size using CE.Fluoride anion appears to be more tightly bound than chloride anion, thus fluoride anion-C4P cone-like formation has smaller stokes radius than that of chloride anion.Fluoride anion can stabilize the calix-like structure of C4Ps more easily than chloride anion [3], hence fluoride anion can form ion pair more easily than chloride anion.
