A new simple and sensitive method employing hydrophilic interaction liquid chromatography(HILIC) with tandem mass spectrometric detection was developed and validated for the identification and determination of eight pterines,namely xanthopterin,isoxanthopterin,leucopterin,erythropterin,L-sepiapterin,6-biopterin,D-neopterin,7,8-dihydroxanthopterin and pterin-6-carboxylic acid,which can be present in the cuticle of heteropteran insect species.
