A novel mutant WH-672, which is defective in conidiation and pathogenicity, was identified by T-DNA mutagenesis in Magnaporthe oryzae.Analysis of the genomic DNA sequence flanking the T-DNA integration site of the mutant showed the exogenous T-DNA was inserted into a putative gene MoMET13, which encodes methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase 1.The enzyme catalyzes the reduction of 5,10-methylenetetrahydrofolate to 5-methyltetrahydrofolate, a co-substrate in the synthesis of methionine from homocysteine.
