Central histaminergic nervous system originates from the tuberomammillary nucleus of the hypothalamus and widely innervates almost the whole brain including some subcortical motor structures.It has been demonstrated that the histaminergic system plays a general modulatory role in many basic body functions,such as the sleep-waking cycle,energy and endocrine homeostasis,synaptic plasticity and learning.However,the functional significance of histaminergic afferent fibers in the central motor structures has remained enigmatic.Using rat brain slice preparations,we investigated the effect of histamine on neuronal activity of three important subcortical motor centers including cerebellum,globus pallidus (GP),and red nucleus (RN).
