Using a moisture-limited regional tree-ring chronology developed from Lingkong Mountain in the southeast Chinese Loess Plateau (CLP), we reconstructed the March-August mean PDSI variations from 1703 to 2008 with an explained variance of 46.4%.The reconstructed PDSI simulated the instrumental PDSI reasonably well and exhibited considerable fluctuations on both the annual and decadal scales. It revealed seven comparatively dry and six comparatively wet periods over the past 306 years.1867-1932 and 1934--1957 AD were the longest dry and wet period, respectively.
