A Solid Model for Cardiac Stress and Strain Analysis

  This paper proposes a solid model based on trivariate B-spline for strain and stress measurement of cardiac ventricles.Firstly, with a series of processing to the medical images, the feature points of LV inner and outer wall are acquired, and then B-spline surface is introduced to build surface model of the walls.Secondly, with the surface models a hexahedron control mesh can be acquired by sweeping and the LV solid model is built by fitting trivariate B-spline.Finally, the idea ofisogeometrical analysis is introduced in this paper to calculate stress and strain of the left ventricle with continuous distribution.Due to the model is built under cylindrical trivariate B-spline, it is more continuous and smoothto reduce the error between the model and true date compared to the finite element model.The stimulation is carried out and results show that cylindrical trivariate B-spline with the given number of control points can fit LV volume efficiently, and by comparing the stress and strain distribution results show that the solid model can give smooth and continuous calculation of left ventricular stress and strain, which can more truly reflect the left ventricular stress and strain distribution.
