Furfural is a promising platform for lignocellulosic fine chemicals and biofuels [1].Conventional technology can not promise to deliver furfural at a competitive cost for various applications due to higher energy consumption and lower yield for recovering furfural from water solution. Some attempts have been addressed to improve the recovery. For example,nitrogen-stripping[2],supercritical co2 extract, adsorption, pervaporation, organic solvent extract, ionic liquid extract et al,were investigated for the recovery.More technical innovation is continuously required to improve economy and environmental protection in furfural production.A novel recovery of furfural is developed with the application of temperature-sensitive ionic liquids in our recent research. The novel separation has advantages such as effective liquid-liquid extraction of furfural from solution with novel ionic liquids, much easy separation of furfural and ionic liquid with solid-liquid filtration and much less energy consumption with less evaporation for pure furfural. The research reveals that the N-alkyl-benzothiazolium ionic liquids would have a promising prospect in the separation of furfural and similar compounds in their aqueous solution.
