  Environmental and economic incentives spurred the development of new technologies for carbon dioxide(CO2)fixation and utilisation.In this context the conversion of CO2 into chemical energy carriers is a promising strategy to reduce the current dependence on petrochemicals while mitigating carbon dioxide emissions.The demand of methanol(CH3OH)and formic acid(HCOOH)in the near future is expected to drastically increase as the former is a potential alternative fuel and a key starting material in numerous industrial reactions.The latter is a high density hydrogen carrier(4.3 wt%of H2)with promising energy storage capacity(53 gL-1)that exceeds pressurized H2 tanks(39.4 gL-1 in a 700 bar H2 tank).Formic acid in liquid state at ambient conditions streamlines storage and transportation and can produce high purity H2 upon decomposition.This reversible equilibrium between formic acid and CO2/H2 opens up new horizons using CO2 as a hydrogen storage medium.
