Ethnopharmacological relevance: compound Muniziqi granule(MNZQ),a traditional Uighur medical preparation,is made up of 13 species of medicinal plants.MNZQ is traditionally used for regulating the bodys immunity, eliminating inflammation and analgesic, detoxification, and anti-tumor in clinic. The aim of present study is to scientifically evaluate the anti-inflammatory and analgesic activities of MNZQ and to support its clinic use with scientific evidence, and lay a foundation for its further researches. The analgesic activity was evaluated by hot plate test and acetic acid induced abdominal writhing test. The acute inflammatory was evaluated by models of xylene-induced ear oedema and carrageenan-induced paw oedema, and the chronic inflammatory was evaluated by cotton pellets-induced granuloma model. In the two tests of analgesic activities,MNZQ produced significant dose-dependent manner increased latency in the hot-plate test, and the percentage of inhibition suggested that it has centrally analgesic activities.Whereas in acetic acid-induced abdominal writhing in mice,MNZQ showed strongly inhibition on the acetic acid induced writhing response for 25.22%(P < 0.01),44.60%(P < 0.001)and 49.41%(P < 0.001)at dosages of 0.8,2.4 and 7.2 g·kg-1.These results suggested that MNZQ also has peripheral analgesic activities. As for anti-inflammatory activities,MNZQ showed significant dose-dependent manner inhibition on xylene-induced oedema and the percentage inhibition was 22.24%(P < 0.01)at the highest dosage of 7.2 g·kg-1.At the dosages of 1.62 and 4.86 g·kg-1,MNZQ could significantly reduce carrageenan induced rat hind paw edema by 82.43%and 84.32%(P < 0.001)after 1h injecting carrageenan and kept to 5 h.MNZQ also exerted a significant anti-inflammatory effect against cotton pellet induced granuloma formation. At the dosages of 1.62 and 4.86 g·kg-1 produced 17.07%,17.60%inhibition of granuloma formation, whereas diclofenac produced 33.12%inhibition in granuloma formation. The results demonstrated that MNZQ possesses anti-inflammatory and analgesic activities, which provided a scientific basis foundation for its uses for alleviating pain and treating inflammatory disorders.
