Textile-reinforced concrete (TRC) is an innovative composite material which uses mesh-like reinforcements made of alkali-resistant glass (AR-glass) or carbon. In contrast to ordinary steel reinforcements, the textile reinforcements do not corrode and, thus,is suitable for concrete construction exposed to severe environmental conditions (e.g.humid and maritime climates or high snow amount in combination with deicing salts).Since the reinforcements do not corrode, the concrete covers can be reduced to 10mm-15mm,leading to extremely thin and slender concrete constructions.Due to the small openings of the textile meshes,a fine-grained concrete with maximum grain sizes of about 5mm is necessary to allow for an unproblematic casting and penetration of the concrete through the meshes.
