Squeeze casting is a net-shape forming process.It is economical and environmental friendly since it reduces scraps and eliminates or reduces machining time.The fact that the squeeze cast products can be used in as-cast condition has secured a place for squeeze casting among other near net shaping methods.It can produce near full density parts for alloys with long freezing range such as Al-Cu,which is hard to be cast without serious shrinkage defects.Heat-treated high strength aluminum cast alloys usually have low ductility.In this study,a high-strength Al-Cu alloy with high ductility was successfully prepared by squeeze casting using a pressure of 60 MPa.Alloy in T5 heat-treated state has an ultimate tensile strength of 385 MPa and an elongation of 11%.Effect of squeeze pressure on microstructure,phase constitution and mechanical property of the as-east alloy was studied.
