The circadian clock is a self-sustaining oscillator which has a period of about 24 hours and directs the physiology,biochemistry and behavior of organisms ranging from lower forms to higher forms,which is an adaptive mechanism to the changes of environment.The clock oscillator is composed of atranscription/translation-based auto-regulatory feedback loop and can synchronize itself to changing environmental conditions.
