The variational integration technique is employed to construct structure preserving algorithms for Birkhoffian systems.By direct discretization of the Pfaff-Birkhoff variational principle, the corresponding discrete Birkhoffian equations are derived that automatically preserve the symplectic structure identified as numerical algorithms.Since the preservation of the symplecticity and the variational feature of original systems, the developed algorithms perform better than traditional schemes and other structure preserving algorithms.
