The uncontrollable properties of conventional insecticides after administration make it difficult to elucidate the location and timing of the activity. Therefore, precise manipulation of the activity of an insecticide molecule is a subject of considerable importance for its safe application. We used light here as an external stimuli to spatiotemporally regulate the insecticide performance and insecticide behaviors.Three photochemical mechanism were applied to relegalize such photo control, that is,hybrid of a photoswitch with an insecticide, incorporation of a photo-liable protection group with an insecticide and generation singlet oxygen upon irradiation of a photosensitizer. The optical control of insecticide activity will contribute to further understandings of pesticide performance, action mechanism and toxicology profiles and provide better pesticideenvironment interactions.
