During the lithiation of an electrode in lithium ion batteries, intercalation reactions of lithium ions take place at the electrode-electrolyte interface.The intercalation reaction is very important because it determines how fast the lithium ions migrate into the electrodes, which further couples with the Li-ion diffusion within the electrode and impacts the spatial distribution of Li-ion concentration and diffusion induced stress.
