High-energy-density hydrocarbons produced from biomass, such as cellulose and carbohydrates, has been raised significant attention in the production of sustainable and renewable transportation fuels.1 Sugar polyols are the important platform compounds, which can be directly or indirectly produced from lignocellulose.Recently, the aqueous-phase reforming of sorbitol to light alkanes has been developed by using the platinum-based catalysts.2 Furthermore, the production of hexane and pentane from sorbitol and xylitol has also been investigated over the nickel-based3 and iridium-based4 catalysts. In current study, the hydrodeoxygenation of sorbitol in aqueous phase was investigated to produce the gasoline-range alkanes by using different metal catalysts combined with solid acid and/or mineral acid as the co-catalysts.
