  A number of rare earth ions doped ferroelectric materials have been prepared by different methods,including Eu3+doped LiNbO3 single crystal by Czochralski method,Er3+doped Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3-0.25PbTiO3(PMN-PT)transparent ceramic by a two-stage sintering method,Er3+doped BaTiO3,(Ba0.5Ca0.5)TiO3 ceramics by sol-gel method,and Er3+doped(K0.5Na0.5)NbO3 ceramic by solid state sintering method.These materials are multi-functional and can be designed for different applications.Our study shows that,a fluorescence intensity ratio method for temperature measurement can be achieved with high sensitivity and accuracy by using these materials.Using the relationship of fluorescence and crystal structure,we have developed non-contact and non-invasive fluorescent methods to detect the phase transition points of ferroelectrics.In addition,by utilizing the piezoelectricity of the host materials,we succeeded in modulating the fluorescence intensity by 150%with electric field,so these materials have potential application as fluorescent photo-switching.
