The family Ganodermataceae comprising more than 200 fungi species is mainly distributed in the tropical and subtropical areas of Asia,Australia,Africa and America, among which more than 100 species grow in China and 78 wild species were found in Hainan Province. The chemical investigation on the fruiting bodies of Ganoderma tropicum (Jungh.)Bres.,wild "Lingzhi"genus in Hainan Province, led to the isolation of thirty two compounds (1-32) including four new compounds by column chromatography on silica gel and sephadex LH-20.Their structures mainly including triterpenes, steroids and xanthones were elucidated by NMR analysis as well as comparison with those reported in the literatures, and were reported for the first time from Ganoderma tropicum.Xanthone was found for the first time from Ganoderma species, which maybe one of the important natural pigment contributed to the yellow color of the fruiting bodies of G.tropicum.The bioassay of cytotoxic activities of nine compounds was evaluated against five human tumor cell lines HL-60,SMMC-7721,A-549,MCF-7,and SW-480.Jacareubin (1) displayed obvious cytotoxic activities on HL-60,SMMC-7721,A-549,MCF-7 and SW-480 with IC50 values of 7.49,9.04,4.44,21.61 and 14.02 μmol.L-1,respectively.22E-7α-methoxy-5a,6a-epoxyergosta-8(14),22-dien-3β-ol (10)also exhibited definite cytotoxic activities on HL-60,MCF-7,and SW-480.
