Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge var.alba C.Y.Wu et H.W.Li, miss., a plant of the same genus as S.miltiorrhiza Bunge, is a perennial folk medicinal herb native to the Zhangqiu, Laiwu, and Taian districts of Shandong province.Also known as Danshen, the roots of S.miltiorrhiza are valued for the treatment of coronary artery disease, angina, hyperlipidemia, and stroke.Its roots have also been used to treat patients with thromboangiitis obliterans (TAO) for more than 100 years.
