Human may affect the regional hydrologic cycle either via direct alteration of the terrestrial water cycle for human needs or via indirect influences on Earths climate system.Changes in regional hydrologic regimes may also interact with regional and global changes.Ottline hydrological models, which represent both natural hydrologic processes and human disturbances, can be used to detect regional hydrologic changes and attribute them to local human activities and/or climate fluctuations.Case studies are discussed in which the streamflow of selected rivers significantly decreased in the late 20th century.
