Sealed areas are changing with time in urban regions.The recently developed methodologys for monitoring sealed areas is based on estimating the percentage o sealed soils.By this the amount of soils covered by a sealing layer is determined.It gives an estimation about the occurrence of not by plants rooted and for air and water not permeable ground.The information from this way of soil sealing monitoring is very limited.For the evaluation of sealing effects will b important the type of sealing,sealing with and without soil excavation,size and width of sealed area,the soil and hums and pollutant content underneath the sealing layer.Hazards related to sealing such as floods,reduced ground water recharge,break through of polluted surface water to the ground water,lack of soil aeration,water circulation underneath sealed areas,urban overheating etc.will depend on these parameters.Soil underneath sealing layers can be rooted and can be use for storm water infiltration.So they can contribute to the quality of life in urban areas by favouring a high green volume o bushes and trees,and by recharge of ground water and diminishing floods.Between individual areas of sealed soils will be large difference.The soil monitoring instruction on sealed areas will propose what should be monitored of sealed soils and ground,and for which purpose.
