Damping nets in the settling chamber of a supersonic wind tunnel play an important role in reducing the axial turbulence and improving the uniformity of axial Mach number.Usually, in the design of damping net device including damping net and connection, main considerations focus on the parameters of damping net, such as loss coefficient, ventilation rate, net number, space between nets, and the connection between damping net and the wall of wind tunnel is always the rigid fixture.This kind of connections makes damping nets easy to damage under the impulse of air flow at the start of a supersonic wind tunnel, and decreases the effect of damping nets because of the unchangeable tension of nets.To solve this problem, the damping net device was optimized according to the analysis on the deformity of damping nets under different running conditions of a supersonic wind tunnel, and a damping net device with a tension mechanism of the damping net was obtained, which is capable of regulating the tension of the damping net at different running conditions.In this paper, a new damping net device with a tension mechanism for a supersonic wind tunnel is described in details, and the structure and fixing position of the tension mechanism in the wind tunnel are also discussed.It is shown by the wind tunnel testing results that using the new damping net device with a tension mechanism, the uniformity of flow field is easy to satisfy the requirements of national standards and damping nets are not destroyed any more.
