A commercial solver Fluent 6.3 (of Fluent Inc., USA) software was used to gain an insight into liquid-phase mixing process in a new type tubular stirred reactor which was designed for leaching process of bauxite.The predicted results discussed here will be used for understanding the liquid-phase mixing process in the tubular stirred reactor.The implications of different flow conditions on the flow characteristics were investigated by the method of large eddy simulations (LES) and the sliding mesh(SM) method was adopted for the rotation impeller.The predicted mixing time was compared with the experimental data and it was in good agreement with the experiment data.It showed that LES can solve effectively the mass transfer problem in the tubular stirred reactor.
