Preeclarnpsia is a potentially fatal hypertensive disorder specific to pregnancy with genetic, pathogenic, and symptomatic similarity to cardiovascular disease.Preeclampsia currently cannot be diagnosed until late in pregnancy with the onset of potentially life-threatening hypertension and proteinuria.A woman who presents with preeclampsia during pregnancy is at elevated risk for cardiovascular disease later in life.
