The Photoluminescence Properties of CaYAl3O7∶Ce3+,Tb3+,Sm3+ Prepared by the Sol-gel Process

  Compared with conventional host lattice,CaYAl3O7 is not only stable that can absorb energy efficiently in the near-UV region but also efficiently transferring energy to the activator.CaYAl3O7 with layered perovskite structures has strong direct excitation bands,and high activator concentration for energy transfer among activators.The crystal structure of CaYAl3O7 is a tetragonal system,and its space group is P 4 21m.This paper reports the synthesis and luminescence properties of rare earth doped CaYAl3O7 which were prepared via a sol-gel process.In Ce3+/Tb3+ co-doped materials,there is energy transfer from Ce3+ to Tb3+ which enhance the luminescence of Tb3+.These materials may find applications in solid state lighting and radiation detection.
