Clinical trials have stringent inclusion criteria.Not all patients who are eligible to enter a clinical trial are willing to participate because of extensive study procedures, risks of not receiving the medication they need, or other reasons.These factors significantly limit the generalizability of study results to the general population.Registries mitigate these limitations by casting a wide net to include a wide range of patients.Thus,results of registry studies are close to real-world situations and have remarkable generalizability.Two such important long-term,large-scale, longitudinal observational databases on prostate cancer are J-CaP from Japan and CaPSURE from the USA.
