We demonstrated the combination of QDs (e.g.CdSe, CdTe and HgCdTe) and ZnO nanowires for photoelectrochemical water splitting [1].Employment of QDs in water splitting system has major advantage.The efficiency for water splitting reaction can be exactly measured in aqueous system without sacrificial reagents.The maximum photoconversion efficiency of 1.83% was observed at an applied potential of~ 0.25 V.
