People tend to forget information that is related to memories they are actively trying to retrieve,which is known as retrieval-inducd forgetting (RIF) effect.Previous studies have been focused on this effect for abstract memory; whether the same effect can be extended to sensorimotor behavior has not been investigated..Here we used a visuomotor learning.task to answer this question.Subjects were instructed to make straight and uncorrected reaching movements to either of the two horizontally displayed targets in successive attempts.In the training period,all subjects experienced a visuomotor gain perturbation to the left target where the gain between the actual hand and its endpoint display was modified to be 1/1.5 (instead of a veridical value of 1).
