Effects of EGCG on the Growth of Human Hair Follicles and Cell Proliferation of Human Dermal Papilla

  Objective:To evaluate the effects of EGCG on the growth of human hair follicles and the cell proliferation of cultured human dermal papilla cells (DPCs) in vitro.Methods:Isolated hair follicles were maintained in 0.5mL Williams E medium with EGCG in ten different concentrations (0-250μg/mL).The growth speed of the hair follicles was observed and recorded on the 10th day.The human DPCs were incubated with EGCG in ten different concentrations (0-500μg/mL)for 48h,then MTT was used to detect the proliferating rates of the cultured DPCs,flow cytometry was alsoused to analyze the cell cycle.Results:EGCG stimulated the growth of human hair follicles in vitro at the concentrations of 0.1 and lμg/mL and enhanced the proliferation of cultured human DPCs at the concentrations range from 15.6 to 62.5μg/mL (p<0.05); flow cytometry meter tests showed that a increased ratio of S,and G2/M and a decreased one of Glin the human DPCs incubated with EGCG was observed within the concentrations between 7.8 and 62.5μg/mL.Conclusion:EGCG can enhance the growth of human hair follicles in vitro and promote the proliferation of cultured human DPCs at the certain concentrations.
