Objective:A retrospective analysis was conducted on 186 cases of knee arthroplasty during the period of 5 years, in order to study the specially clinical features of the patients and to observe the outcome of treatment. Methods From January 2000 to December 2004, 186 cases of knee arthroplasty were performed in 127 patients. There were 68 unilateral TKA in 68 patients, and ll8 bilateral TKAs in 59 patients. 176 knees underwent patellar replacement in 119 patients, and 10 knees with reserved patellar in 8 patients. Unicompartmental knee arthroplasty were performed in 8 patients, and 119 patients with total knee arthroplasty. The diagnosis of the clinical conditions were osteoarthritis, rheumatism arthritis, traumatic arthritis. Patients in this series also had several kinds of severe deformities, such as genu varus, genu valgus, flexion contracture of the knee. 80 patients were followed-up after operation, and the date were analyzed by the HSS score system. Result The follow-up showed that the excellent and good results were achieved in 92.3%. The pain and function of knee were improved effectively after operation, especially, the pain was alleviated remarkably. However, the function of knee flexion had not been enhanced significantly in some patients. Conclusion The therapeutics effect of total knee arthroplasty (TKA) was satisfactory, and a significant improvement was seen not only in the quality of life but also in function of knee. The short-term effect of UKA was satisfactory, however, the long-term outcome of UKA need further observation to be confirmed. Physical therapy is very important in the rehabilitation following operation.
