Accurate and Rapid detection and reporting of respiratory viral illness is a challenge for the laboratory during Influenza season.Due to the labor intensiveness of the viral cultures & Direct Fluorescence Antibody (DFA) tests and the low sensitivity of the rapid Flu A, Flu B and RSV tests, we moved to a multiplex molecular platform: an one-step real time Reverse Transcdptase Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) assay for the detection of Flu A, Flu B and RSV from a single patient sample during the 2006 respiratory season.
