A novel,catalase-negative,facultative anaerobe, strain CP-1,was isolated from a penguins faeces sample collected from Amanda bay,Antarctica.Gram-positive staining,non-spore-forming,rod-shaped cells, motilewas observed in TSB medium contains 0.4%agar,Strain CP-1 was able to grow in the pH range of 6.0-9.5 with optimum growth at pH8.5.The novel isolate was able to grow in the temperature range of 4-36℃,and had a best growing at 32℃.Growth was observed in the NaCl concentration range of 0%-5.0%with optimum growth at 1.0%.16S rDNA sequence was compared with all sequences in the EzBioCloud database, and the closest relative was strain Carnobacterium mobile DMS 4848T(97.55%similarity).The genomic G+C content was 38.13 mol%by whole genome sequence analysis. The DNA-DNA hybrdizafion revealed 35.8%similarity.The major fatty acid components were C12:0(5.75%),C14:0(60.19%),C16:1w9c(22.46%)and C16:0(8.79%).The cell-wall contains meso-diaminopimelic acid.On the basis of itsgenotypic, physiological and biochemical characteristics, strain CP-1 should be classified in a novel species of the genus Carnobacterium, and be named Carnobacterium antarcticus sp.nov.
