　　A growing body of evidence indicates that peripheral nerve injury (PNI) converts spinal microglia into reactive cells.Results of our laboratory have demonstrated that spinal microglia upregulate the expression of the purinergic receptor subtype P2X4R through a mechanism involving the transcription factors interferon regulatory factor-8 (IRF8) and IRF5.
