Urbanization of existing environments in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia can be impossible with the current knowledge of abnormal behavior of shrink-swell phenomenon posed by the problematic soils in the form of shales.The dissolution and disintegration of shales result in the formation residual clayey soils which tend to exhibit unconventional swelling when they are remolded.
