Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D) animal models are of importance in understanding the pathogenesis and in developing potential therapeutic agents for this disease.Old World nonhuman primates (NHPs),especially cynomolgus macaques,can be a valuable animal model of T2D because they have the biological and genetic similarities to humans and the disease is also common in older,obese populations.
