  Background: Dexmedetomidine can lengthen the time of effective local anesthetic concentration,however,the most efficient administration of dexmedetomidine remains unknown.Thus,we conducted this prospective,double-blinded,randomized and placebo-controlled study to compare the effects of caudal and intravenous dexmedetomidine on postoperative pain,which was produced by caudal levobupivacaine.
