Nonlinear dynamical systems with a discontinuous restoring force often occur in both science and engineering, and always lead to a barrier for conventional nonlinear techniques.A pendulum with rigid unilateral barrier is constructed to reveal the bifurcation and the chaos of the discontinuous nonlinear system.The bifurcation diagram of the unperturbed impact pendulum system is constructed to examine the influence of the parameters on the dynamics.
